Terms & Disclaimer
The agreement, in plain language
Version v1.0-2026-05-03. We’ll bump this number any time the substantive terms change and ask you to re-acknowledge.
What this is
Our System Sanctuary (“the Sanctuary,” “we,” “us”) is a peer-built, community-supported web app for plural systems and people with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and related dissociative experiences. It is a place for journaling, internal communication, community connection, and self-organization.
By creating an account or using the Sanctuary, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.
We are not clinicians
The Sanctuary is not a medical service, mental-health service, therapy service, crisis service, or healthcare provider. We are not doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, counselors, or licensed clinicians of any kind, and using this app does not create a clinical or therapeutic relationship between you and us.
Nothing on this site — not the journals, not the AI features, not the insights, not the community, not the resources page — is medical advice, psychological advice, diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment. Information on dissociative experience here is educational and community-sourced, not clinical.
If you are receiving care from a clinician, please continue working with them. If you are not, and you would like to be, the Resources page lists places to start. If something here is helpful in your clinical work, that’s wonderful — share it with your clinician. It is not a substitute for them.
Crisis is not what we are built for
The Sanctuary is not a crisis line and we cannot respond to emergencies. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about ending your life or someone else’s life, please reach out to a crisis service right now:
- · United States: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
- · United Kingdom: Samaritans 116 123
- · Worldwide: findahelpline.com
- · Anywhere with emergency services: 911, 999, 112, 000, etc.
The crisis button in the corner of every page is a quick link to those resources. It is not a panic button that pages a human at our end. Nobody at the Sanctuary will see that you tapped it.
What you take on by using this
You use the Sanctuary at your own discretion and risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- · The Sanctuary is provided “as is,” without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
- · We make no promises that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that data will not be lost.
- · We are not liable for any injury, distress, harm, loss, or damages arising from your use of the Sanctuary, from reliance on anything you read here, from interactions with other users, or from data loss or service interruption.
- · If a court finds we are liable, our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months (currently: $0).
Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations on warranties or liability. In those places, the limitations above apply only to the extent the law allows.
Your content, your account
You keep ownership of everything you write, draw, or upload to the Sanctuary — journals, members, letters, posts, notes, all of it. You grant us a limited license to store and display that content as needed to run the service for you.
You are responsible for keeping your password and recovery email secure. We chose server-side recovery rather than zero-knowledge encryption so that a forgotten password doesn’t cost you a life-history — the trade-off, explained on our Trust & Privacy page, is that the developer can technically reach your data the way any web-app developer can. We don’t read it for fun, sell it, or use it to train AI.
You can export everything (Settings → Export) and delete your account at any time. Deletion is final — we keep no shadow copy.
Community ground rules
You agree not to use the Sanctuary to:
- · Harass, threaten, dox, or stalk other users or alters.
- · Post content that promotes self-harm, suicide methods, or eating-disorder behavior in a harmful way.
- · Post content that questions whether someone’s system is “real.” This community does not litigate plurality.
- · Post sexual content involving minors, non-consenting adults, or anything illegal.
- · Impersonate, scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to break the security of the service.
- · Use the Sanctuary for clinical or commercial purposes (running a practice, advertising, recruiting subjects) without written permission.
We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these rules. Where possible we’ll talk to you first.
Changes, contact, and the boring parts
We may update these terms. When the change is substantive, we’ll bump the version number above and prompt you to re-acknowledge before continuing to use the service.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Florida. If a provision is held unenforceable, the rest still applies.
